I'm interested in knowing what temperature you keep your house in two parts:
1) When you're at home and awake; and
2) When you're asleep or away from the house.
I've heard a lot of answers, ranging from 72 degrees down to 55 degrees.
What do you do? Please leave a comment and tell me.

In the interest of fairness, I'll share my own answers.
I used to keep the house at 69-70 when Tessa was a baby. Then, 68. Now, 66 when we're at home and awake, 62 while we're gone or asleep (I've programmed the thermostat to be automatic). I'm used to the "cold" 66 now but the evening temps give me chills sometimes, as I'm getting into bed...I figure I'll adjust in time. Now I occassionally sleep with warm socks! Ryan and Tessa run hot so they don't seem to notice in the slightest, but I run cold except when I'm hot flashing, and I REALLY notice.
Hi Kristina. Interesting questions. We keep our house at 67 when we're home and awake, 60 when we're asleep, and 55 when we leave during the day or are gone on vacation. Our place is pretty drafty so 67 seems a bit cold sometimes.
We have a 9-month-old, so we're keeping the house warmer than usual...about 68. Pre-baby, we'd do 65 while we're home and 60 while we're out for the day.
I found your site via the West Seattle Blog and enjoy reading from time to time. I appreciate your insights, and courage!
Hi Kristina,
We live in Northern Vermont and it's very cold here in the winter!
Here are our settings:
6am-7am: 67 degrees
7am-2pm: 60 degrees (I am at work and kids are at school)
2pm-9pm: 65 degrees
9pm-6am: 60 degrees
On Sat and Sunday we keep the house at 65 during the day b/c we are home.
Yes, it gets quite cold in our house at night but we are used to it. I grew up in a house that only had a wood stove so it was always cold at night. Flannel is my friend!

From Minnesota: 58 at night, away from home, between 64-66 when home in the evening. Don't usually turn up the heat in the morning because I'm out the door pretty fast. Small house, no drafts, no kids. I'm easily chilled when I'm still and will wear a hoodie or hat in the house, use a hot water or microwavable heat bag, or drink lots of hot tea. May be silly, but there you go.
Hi Kristina - Lurker from OS here. I really enjoy your writing. :)
We're in Phoenix, so I'm probably zero help to you. Right now (and for the last month) we've had the air conditioner set at 78. In the winter (I finally turned it on Xmas Eve) we had the heater at 68 during the day when we were home and 65 at night. It probably never "kicked on" some of those days, and stopped turning on somtime in February, I'd guess.
I hope you don't mind a lurker, best to you and your family.
Jess
